Gray foxes have different specific diets based on the region of the U.S. in which they live. Generally they all eat reptiles, cottontails, squirrels, mice, rats, birds, amphibians, invertebrates, fruits, nuts, corn, arthropods, and some carrion. Along the east coast cottontails appear to be a most important prey species.
