Painted Turtles

 

Given the speed with which turtles slip off their basking logs disappearing under murky water, the species level identification leaves much to be desired. Since the Eastern painted turtle, Chrysemys picta, is the most common basking turtle in our area it is assumed there is one in the photo this month.
